Thirty seven soldiers committed suicide in three years

In response to a question raised in Rajya Sabha, Government believed that 37 jawans of the Central Armed Police Force stationed in Jammu & Kashmir had committed suicide during the last three years.

Union Home Minister Kiran Rijiju told in the upper house that the reason for suicide was personal and domestic problems, issues in marriage life, hostility and tension during work. He said that almost each month, either a woman or a male jawan did suicide. He also said that, government has taken several precautionary measures to restrain this trend; they are being given better medical facilities where experts are helping them to eradicate mental stress.

Yoga and meditation are also being taught to the soldiers. Government has also taken note of some other aspects, under which the immediate leaves are given to jawans if needed, capsule courses have been implemented to overcome the stresses and to develop better communication among the commanders and jawans.
