LAW MINISTER RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD WRITES LETTER TO CJI FOR REQUEST TO MAKE BUSINESS EASIER

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad writes letter to CJI for request to make business easier

To ease the process of doing business in the country, government has urged Chief Justice of India to help. In this regard, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Justice JS Khehar and asked the local courts to take appropriate steps for speedy disposal of business disputes in Delhi and Mumbai. Prasad says that India's rankings will improve on the World Bank's 'Ease Of Driving Business Index' with immediate settlement of business disputes in local courts.

In fact, Law Minister was required to write this letter to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court because India's ranking in case of Enforcement Contract on 'Ease of Doing Business Index' is considerably down. India's ranking in the list of 190 countries on 'Ease of Doing Business Index 2017' is 130, whereas in terms of enforcing contract India is at 172nd position.

While preparing this index, World Bank takes cognizance of the time spent in disposing of commercial disputes in local courts in Mumbai and Delhi only, so if the judicial process at the level of local courts increases, then India's Rank can improve. This is the reason that Law Minister has written a letter to the Chief Justice of India. Prasad said there are several issues in which judiciary can take effective initiative in efficient manner.

He expressed confidence that in this regard Supreme Court will play an important role in leadership.
