The Bombay High Court has called Manodhairya Scheme arranged for giving compensation to victims of sexual harassment and acid attack in Maharashtra, as shameful and embarrassing. Advising the state government to take a fresh look at the plan, the court said that there is lack of empathy.
During the hearing on the petition of the 14-year-old teenager, the Bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice GS Kulkarni said, "We are not happy with Manodhairya Scheme. It is abusive, inhuman and embarrassing. Intellect was not used while preparing this plan. It's just a formality. '
Teenager had asked for compensation of two lakh rupees from the government. After failing in this effort, the victim filed a petition in October last year. The Bench said, 'Take a look at Goa. There is a compensation of 10 lakh rupees. We also expect progressive and positive move from Maharashtra. "
Court, along with its order, directed Supreme Court to keep the decisions given on such issues in front of the Chief Secretary of the state. The court said that in this case, a concrete decision can be taken within four weeks.
