Aadhaar Verification Compulsory for Driving License

AADHAAR VERIFICATION COMPULSORY FOR DRIVING LICENSE

Aadhaar Verification Compulsory for Driving License

The driving license applicants will now need to provide Aadhaar Card no. The new rule will be followed from the month of October. The action has been taken to stop people from issuing more than one licenses from Regional Transport Offices for a single licensee. Moreover, the process of document verification which is being done manually so far will become simpler, faster and more accurate with the biometric system of Aadhaar card.

Aadhaar has become mandatory for mobile phone connections and PAN card applications. It is clear that Aadhaar will become an inseparable part of national identity. However, if a driving license applicant does not have Aadhaar no, s/he will need to provide other documents for identity proof. Nothing has been specified about the existing driving licenses. According to the Finance Bill 2017, Aadhaar link up has become mandatory for income tax filing.
