More than 300 meat shops have been allegedly shut down by force in Gurgaon, as Shiv Sena thinks open meat shops can pollute the purity of Navratri, a Hindu religious festival. An outlet of KFC, the international fried chicken brand has been closed too. Navratri is a nine-day religious fest when Hindus eat vegetarian diet. Shiv Sena also wishes that meat shops should remain closed on Tuesdays, as Hindus eat vegetarian diet on this day.
Meat shops have been closed in Sadar bazaar, Badshahpur, Sushant Lok, DLF and Sohna Road. Some shop owners say that they have no objection to it as they think that they should show respect to religious faith. But some think it is an illegal attack on their profession and they should lodge complaint with the police.
Gurgaon police authority says that immediate action will be taken if the incident of forced closure is true.
