The interest of environment and public health wins in the Supreme Court, as the highest judiciary body declares ban on all vehicles which are not in line with the BS IV emission rules; the automobile companies and dealers will not be permitted to sell such vehicles from April 1. The ban will be effective from April 1. The environment activists and the Centre for Science and Environment are extremely happy with this verdict.
The automobile firms appealed for an extension of time to make some arrangement for the old vehicles in stock. But the court strongly rejected all appeals and stuck to the announced date, saying that the interest of environment and public health cannot be compromised on such grounds.
Almost nine lakh vehicles from different companies will become useless from April 1. The SC says that the automobile firms should have made arrangements much earlier because they got the indication of the verdict.
