Political parties of the opposition including the Congress cry foul against Electronic Voting Machine. Several cases of tampering in the EVM have been found; the opposition has reported the issue to the Election Commission. There is a demand of bringing the ballot papers back and also using the VVPAT (voter verified paper audit trial). Some videos have raised question on the authenticity of the VVPAT; the matter is being examined by the EC.
Delhi chief minister Mr Aravind Kejriwal has complained against using old EVMs (made before 2006); according to him, the security features are not in order in such old machines. After the BJP’s monumental success in Uttar Pradesh, BSP chief Mayawati has cried foul against the EVM.
The Election Commission says that the advanced M3 machines will replace the old system of EVM from the 2019 general poll. According to EC, the M3 devices are truly advanced to prevent tampering, as these machines stop working if tampering happens.
