NEW MOTOR VEHICLE (AMENDMENT) BILL TO ASSURE ROAD SAFETY

New Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill to Assure Road Safety

Innumerable incidents of road accident and death have given rise to several movements for road safety in India; the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2016 is expected to solve road safety issues in multiple ways. According to the new bill there will be a centralized system for vehicle and driving license registration with Aadhaar card link up; this will bring an end to corruption with driving license (multiple licenses for a single license-holder).

The new bill counts pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles within the traffic discipline, suggesting separate lanes for them. Children’s safety is concerned as a major issue; using seatbelts and helmets will become compulsory according to the new rules. Also contractors will get punished for irresponsible road construction. The amount of fine will be one lakh if found guilty.

Most innovatively, the bill proposes a correctional home for people who are prone to breaking traffic rules quite frequently. The cab service companies like Uber, Ola or Meru will come under the discipline of Motor Vehicles.
