Sports ministers in RIO

Sports ministers in RIO

You have "Defective thinking”. This is how Haryana sports minister Anil Vij today said to those who are criticizing his trip to Rio. He didn’t go alone but with eight other state politicians and bureaucrats. The tourism cost is Rs 1 crore paid by state government.

"I've come here to stand by our players+ who're fighting for India and see what problems they face. They (people who criticise my Rio trip have their defective thinking, they've started a hate campaign against our country," Vij told ANI in Rio today.

He also said his state will give Rs 6 crore to a player who wins a gold medal. But  he failed to mention whether it was for any player of India or only for Haryana player. Last week the minister said that he went to Rio to encourage haryana players.

"We are doing a lot for our Haryana players. This year we've given Rs 100 crore as prize money to them. Want to stand by our players in every stage," Vij said in Rio.

"Initially, it was a 10-day programme - August 4 to 13. But since the main events in which Haryana's athletes will compete will begin after August 14, we curtailed our programme from August 14 to 18. We are not the only one. Uttar Pradesh and the Indian government have sent their delegations too." said K K Khandelwal, director general of Haryana's sports and youth affairs department, last week.
