The Indian Government Wants Kohinoor Back

The rightful possession of the Kohinoor has been discussed for so many years; now there is a fresh controversy during the BJP rule; the court and the government are opposing each other regarding the issue. While the government says that the precious gem was robbed by the British and should be returned to India, the Supreme Court opines that it was a gift to the British and no question of return comes there. According to historical facts, it was a gift to the British from Prince Dalip Singh, after the 1849 Sikh war.

The government says that it should give priority to the emotional attachment of the Indian people with the historic gem, as there is no such concrete evidence behind the gift theory. However there is no clear legal ground either to claim Kohinoor back. The government has to depend on diplomatic tactics to get it back.
