No Parole for Rapists and Terrorists

Maharashtra Government headed by CM Devendra Fhadnavis amended the prison rules. According to the new rule, parole or furlough for rape convicts, terrorists and those involved in heinous crime is completely banned. The change was prompted due to incident of parole jumping by one of the convict. 

Sajjad Mughal was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha,. He jumped parole and is untraceable. Also, the parole period is reduced for prisoners for other categories to 45 days from 90 days. 

Categories which involved complete ban includes crime such as sexual offences against minors, human trafficking, rape or rape with murder, dacoity, terrorist crimes, mutiny against state, kidnapping for ransom, smuggling of narcotic or psychotropic substances.
